“I have discovered in life that there are ways of getting almost anywhere you want to go, if you really want to go.”
― Langston Hughes
I decided early that poetry would take me where I wanted to go. Poetry books allowed me to view a world larger than my surroundings. Now I'm just trying to enjoy the journey to inspire a nation of youth and to prove that we are powerful beyond measure. Here are a few snippets of my work. So come into the poetry lounge and take your shoes off. Get comfortable and enjoy a few snippets of my work.

SPACE
not realizing that even fire needs oxygen to live WE hold unto flames too tight suffocating them to death so we fight, holding on with all our might when really all we need is to give a little space equally understanding that space does not equal an ending just a mutual decision to sacrifice comfort for healing so i sit at a laptop envisioning that the screen becomes a campfire that we are curled up by wondering if the vision of my previous heartbreak will play on rerun or dvr so that you can fast forward through my scars they are ugly dripping of images of an empty room we called a bedroom broken boxes and shattered liquor bottles stained with tears of wishing she'd come back these scenes are ugly pass the remote and fast forward through the commercials we'd rather not see- better to pretend our bad archived shows never aired so we sit and be. separated by a few minutes in a city. opposite sides connected by social media that tells us that we still living to me- it seem like lifetimes between conversations to you- seems like a blink between dialogue i admire your strength of not missing me when i miss you more than missing my old self before fear became my crutch space scares me now space creates stories in my head by campfires that you no longer need or want me space creates truths that somewhere deep inside of you- you do not realize that i need you so i sit and smile at the space you need it's a foreign idea to me latin in modern tongues hieroglyphic cursive scrawled on a broken heart that desires you to teach me that it's safe to have space i sit watching the new series of trust begin hoping that you will join me on the couch soon invite me into your space of friends, jogs, exercise my spirit into your existence i like it there it feels familiar a space that i've occupied in peace she texts, enjoying my space i send a smiley face hiding my nervous frown i'm learning to trust that the space is safe to occupy lap top key strokes resemble flickers of fire i feel stronger in the warmth © 2018 -Urban Thoughts |
